The DPP Pride committee sponsors a variety of annual and ongoing events and activities.  See Announcements and the calendar for up-to-date details.

APS DPP Meeting Activities:

Join us at the DPP Annual Meeting for a variety of community-building events.

Ongoing Activities

  • A mentorship pilot program that offers mentoring tailored to LGBT+ members of the APS DPP community, aimed at professional development and support. See Mentoring Program for more information.
  • Collaboration with other committees, such as W+IPP, on general visibility and outreach efforts such as joint town halls on topical events, ally-training, and surveys.
  • Regular networking and informal social activities, including Game Night.  Join our Discord to learn more!

November 2022

  • DPP Pride Luncheon
    Join DPP Pride for our annual luncheon at the DPP meeting in Spokane, WA. Meet fellow LGBT+ plasma physicists and allies over a catered lunch, followed by presentation on being queer in STEM by Prof. Allison Mattheis.  Tickets can be purchased during registration, or at the registration desk on-site. Virtual participation will be available and is free. This event is open to all DPP members, and we encourage allies to join.
    • DPP LGBT+ Networking Dinner
      Join fellow LGBT+ plasma physicists for an informal networking dinner at the DPP meeting in Spokane, WA.  We’ll meet at the registration desks and walk to a local restaurant.  Please bring a method of payment for your dinner. An informal social event for later that week will be planned during the dinner.

      Come to the Green Leafe Cafe (765 Scotland Street) for a happy hour on Thursday, June 9th to get to know your fellow LGBTQ+ plasma physicists! A group will meet outside the poster hall at 5:15 pm and walk over together, or you're welcome to meet us there.

      Description:       Join DPP Pride for our first ever luncheon at the DPP meeting in Pittsburgh, PA. Meet fellow LGBT+ plasma physicists and allies over a catered lunch, followed by Q&A with a panel of university, national lab, and student representatives to discuss LGBT+ issues within the plasma physics community.  Tickets can be purchased during registration, or at the registration desk on site. Virtual participation will be available and is free. This event is open to all DPP members, and we encourage allies to join.

      Check out the first-ever Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) booth in the exhibit hall at this year's DPP meeting in Pittsburgh, PA.  The booth is being sponsored by the DPP Pride Committee, Women+ in Plasma Physics, and the DEI Organizing Collective Committee and will highlight DEI activities and events at the DPP meeting, as well as provide general DEI information and opportunities.
