GSCCM Biennial Meeting

22nd Biennial Conference of the APS Topical Group on Shock Compression of Condensed Matter (SHOCK22)

July 10-July 15, 2022 • Anaheim, California

Health and Safety Requirements to Attend the SHOCK22 Meeting in Anaheim

Update: May 20, 2022

All in-person attendees at APS-hosted meetings are required to be 'up to date' on their COVID-19 vaccination, including primary dosage(s) and a booster, based on the latest CDC recommendations for staying Up to Date on vaccines. And all attendees must also receive a negative COVID test result before entering the meeting.

In light of ongoing monitoring of infection and transmission of COVID-19, we have relaxed some of the COVID-19 safety requirements for in-person attendance of the SHOCK22 Meeting, as of March 20. These changes were made in consultation with our scientific consulting firm; APS is committed to offering in-person participants a safe way to gather.

Please note the following changes:

  • APS has expanded the list of acceptable pre-meeting COVID-19 tests to now include any at-home or pharmacy-based rapid antigen test or PCR test.
  • Mask wearing is strongly encouraged but not required. It is the responsibility of attendees with symptoms, or potential exposure to someone with COVID-19 to continue to wear a mask.

An attendee must be symptom-free for at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms to participate in the meeting.

All attendees are required to be up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines prior to attending the meeting with a vaccine approved by the CDC and/or World Health Organization (Pfizer/BioNTech, Johnson and Johnson/Janssen, Moderna, AstraZeneca/Oxford, Covishield, Covaxin, Covovax, Nuvaxovid, Sinopharm, or Sinovac). A booster shot is required, if eligible. If you have not yet received a booster and have been recently infected, please contact safemeetings@aps.org for guidance.

Details on the Requirements

APS is closely monitoring the state of the pandemic—particularly the emerging subvariants of COVID-19—in consultation with public health experts. At this time, we are planning for an in-person event with virtual components. The health and safety of APS members, attendees, staff, exhibitors, and the local community is our top priority. All attendees must be up to date on their vaccinations.

Requirements:

  • All attendees are required to be up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines prior to attending the meeting with a vaccine approved by the CDC and/or World Health Organization (Pfizer/BioNTech, Johnson and Johnson/Janssen, Moderna, AstraZeneca/Oxford, Covishield, Covaxin, Covovax, Nuvaxovid, Sinopharm, or Sinovac). Booster shots are required, if eligible.
  • Confirm their vaccination status via VaccineCheck, a secure online system, prior to arrival at the meeting or through an alternative process established by APS. Please contact safemeetings@aps.org for guidance.
  • Obtain a negative COVID test prior to the meeting and enter testing results into VaccineCheck, prior to arrival at the meeting:

  • All attendees will be asked to complete an online daily health check.
    • Each morning (around 5 a.m.) each attendee receives an email AND an SMS/text message with a link to complete this health attestation. After correctly answering the health questions, and receiving the "You are CLEARED for the Event!" response, attendees may proceed to the meeting venue.

Important Notice for Attendees

We are aware that the COVID-19 variants may affect travel to the Meeting. Please note that you will be able to change your registration type from “Live” to “Virtual” and vice versa should you be unable to travel at the last minute, or be unable to attend. Friday, July 1  is the deadline for changing your registration type.

We will honor the original price category (early, regular, late) that you selected during your initial registration.

We understand this is a difficult time for everyone. APS wants to see its members, but first and foremost is concerned about everyone’s health and safety.
