The Chair's Note - Spring 2026

By Ericka Donielle Stansbury posted 12 hours ago

Hello from your DPP Chair!

I want to update you on what the DPP Executive Committee has been working on since our meeting in Long Beach.

First, we said goodbye to Executive Committee members who finished their terms in the Fall: Members-at-Large Arturo Dominguez and David Schaffner, Secretary/Treasurer Sophia Gershman, and Past Chair Ed Thomas. Thank you for your service to our DPP community! We also welcomed several new members to the committee, including Eva Kostadinova, Liz Merritt and Steve Vincena. We also welcomed David Schaffner in his new role as our new Secretary/Treasurer.

The Executive Committee has held several meetings this year in which we have discussed key Division issues. David Schaffner has been working with APS Meetings to review our spending from the 2025 Meeting and develop a robust spending plan going forward to further solidify the Division's finances. Following discussion among the Executive Committee, we put out a call to our community to help create strong nomination pools for our opportunities, roles, and honors. You can see the full statement here. We also invited Elisa Enriquez, the APS Ombuds, to join one of our meetings. She discussed her role with APS and shared several resources for our community. More detail on what an Ombuds can provide to DPP is outlined here.

Planning for the 2026 Meeting in Chicago has begun in earnest, with Felicie Albert, DPP Chair-Elect, leading the Program Committee. As a reminder, nominations for invited talks are due May 4, 2026 — and please note that self-nominations are accepted.

Thanks!

Carolyn Kuranz, DPP Chair
