SCCM 2025

Dear SCCM 2025 Family!

Thank you for attending SCCM 2025, the 24th International Conference on Science of Compression in Condensed Matter. Over 600 attendees gathered in Washington DC for a week filled with 700+ presentation and posters. Seventy scientists from 28 international institutions put together an impressive Scientific Program, with 7 parallel sessions held at the Washington Hilton throughout the week of June 22nd-27th.

Among innovation for this SCCM there were 5 double-act plenary world-class presentations and 8 Masterclasses on a variety of topics taught by teams of experts. 7 Masterclasses were held in person while the 8th, Intro to Shock Physics is being offered online on August 4th – watch for an invite to a GCCM Zoom Seminar.

Over 50 undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral scientists received Participation Grants to attend the entire week of the conference: everyone who applied received support. Participation Grants were entirely funded by generous contributions from our Sponsors and Exhibitors: SNL, AWE, LANL, LLNL, CDAC, JHU-DTRA and UDRI-AFRL, WSU and DAC Tools.

The team of the American Physical Society put in an impressive amount of effort into the logistics of organizing the conference: we are particularly grateful to Ebony Adams, Emily Loomis and Steph Peterson. “Encore” offered outstanding AV support with technicians present all day in each room, ready to assist speakers – in particular real time sound quality adjustment was a great hit!

Budget-wise things are looking good with enough funds left over to go towards the publication of Proceedings Papers: look for emails from the Co-Chairs and the Proceedings Team, with submission deadline set to August 15th, 2025 and a target publication of 9 months after the conference.

The Conference Co-Chairs greatly enjoyed seeing this high-voltage week unfold, after having spent 2 years in countless meetings, thousands of emails, discussions and spreadsheets. We look forward to SCCM 2027 in Chicago where all we will have to do is show up!

Finally Thank You to all Attendees for coming to Washington DC and helping to create such an electrifying scientific gathering!
