SHOCK22 Organizers are asking all presenters who have not yet uploaded a video or poster to do so between July 19 - 25. (Plenary talks are already on the platform.) By uploading your poster and/or video, you will enhance and extend the SHOCK22 Meeting experience and extend the reach of your work. Visit Virtual Platform Upload Site , click on the "APS ID" button (look for the APS logo), and log in using your APS account login information . Dear High-Pressure Community, It is with great pleasure that we announce a new APS/GSCCM-sponsored award for researchers in their first 10 years post-PhD , the “Neil Ashcroft Early Career Award for Studies of Matter at Extreme High Pressure Conditions.” This new award will be offered annually, beginning immediately, to recognizes outstanding theoretical or experimental contributions by an early-career (within 10-years of PhD) scientist to studies of matter at extreme high pressure conditions. Organizers for the 2023 SCCM Conference were selected in December. Congratulations to Dayne Fratanduono (Lawrence Livermore National Lab), Su Peiris (Air Force Research Laboratory) and Malcolm McMahon (University of Edinburgh)! NOTE: Due to the COVID delays we will be holding SCCM in back-to-back years in 2022 and 2023. Jen Jordan and Ari Gleeson are serving as SCCM 2022 Co-organizers. The Computational Multiscale Department at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, invites applications for a staff position in the area of equation of state (EOS) modeling. Our research team addresses challenges in the creation of EOS models for predicting material response in high temperature, high pressure environments. This includes formulation of wide-range EOS tables for use in hydrocodes for modeling shock and other extreme events, the quantification of error for EOS models, and the development and deployment of software tools for EOS model creation. NSF Director Explains Vision for Science Agency in APS News In the June edition of APS News, National Science Foundation (NSF) Director Sethuraman Panchanathan discusses his vision for the science agency, including its role in supporting research and training the future STEM workforce. Panchanathan is a computer scientist and engineer, and NSF’s 15 th director, after being confirmed by the US Senate on June 18, 2020. Early Career Award Nominations Due The APS GSCCM Early Career Award is given to recognize outstanding work by either a current graduate student or a researcher within two years of PhD completion. Nominations for the award are invited from the entire community and should include a cover letter, at least two letters of support, an example of recent work (publication, conference proceedings, poster or abstract), and the nominee’s CV. The recipient will be recognized at the next SCCM conference and will give an oral presentation on their work.
