Biographies:
Katie Zee: With over fifteen years of experience in the International Education field, Katie believes that global exchange has the power to change the world. Since joining IIE in 2014, she has worked on corporate scholarship programs, K-12 teacher exchange programs and the Fulbright Program. Katie joined the TechWomen team in 2017, first supporting participants during their TechWomen experience and now as the program director, overseeing daily operations, overall programmatic activities and managing the talented TechWomen team.
Zaria Qadafi: Zaria joined the IIE team in the summer of 2017, when she became an undergraduate advisor for KAUST Gifted Student Program. She made the move to the Experiential Learning team in the spring of 2019 to head up PDPI, a professional development study abroad program for Brazilian English teachers. Most recently, Zaria joined the TechWomen team to serve as the program officer and has since transitioned into the role of Communications and Impact Analyst. With over a decade of experience in the field of International Education, Zaria has worked in Brazil, Paraguay, Vietnam and Washington, DC. Zaria is a life-long lover of the language arts and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Missouri.
Abstract:
TechWomen, an initiative of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) at the U.S. Department of State, is a five-week project-based professional mentorship and exchange program that connects emerging women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields from Africa, the Middle East, and South and Central Asia with counterparts at leading companies in the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago to provide them the access and opportunity needed to advance their careers and pursue their dreams. TechWomen builds lasting relationships, lays the foundation for ongoing collaboration, expands networks, and increases skills and knowledge.
After completing the program, program alumnae – currently numbering over 1,100 from 22 countries – continue the mission of the program, driving regional impact and nurturing the pipeline of future women leaders in STEM. TechWomen alumnae are recognized as role models for other women and girls in their communities, and are experts in their fields. During the colloquia, you will be introduced to a few incredible TechWomen alumnae and learn about the work they undertake to foster economic impact, entrepreneurship, innovation, environmental sustainability, education diplomacy, mentorship, youth engagement, and public health initiatives, all while empowering women and girls in their home communities and abroad.
