Dear DBIO members,

Thank you for participating in the APS Division of Biological Physics (DBIO) with your membership. Please remember to renew your unit membership of the Division of Biological Physics APS during your annual renewal for APS!

Over the past year, the DBIO Executive Committee has worked to serve the Biological Physics community. These activities included the following:

  • Community Engagement: Engaged with the DBIO members through @ApsDbio on twitter, hosted monthly on-line happy hours, and sponsored the production of the Living Histories Series on Youtube.
  • Fellowship and Awards: Nomination of DBIO members for APS fellowship and selection of the awardees for DBIO Honors, including the Inaugural Early Career Award for Biological Physics. The Early Career Award and Travel Grants are supported entirely by DBIO operating funds.
  • 2021 Election: The DBIO Executive committee has proposed new changes in the by-laws that will elect early career scientists to the leadership as early as 2023.
  • Hybrid 2022 March Meeting: This past year, the DBIO Program Committee improved procedures to engage DBIO Focus Session Organizers.  There was a 15% increase in abstract submission from last year. Over 50 sorters from early career scientists to established ones with diverse expertise are now actively working collaboratively on your behalf to organize the March Meeting.

Over the past year, DBIO has enjoyed a nearly 25% increase in membership this year and currently stands close to 2500. Increasing our membership is very important in order to remain a Division within the APS and to allow us to advocate for our field. The APS allocates resources to a unit (such as the numbers of new APS fellows each year) according to the size of its membership. We need your support to sustain our growth by renewing your membership in DBIO for FY 2022. To view the current status of your membership with DBIO, please login to my.aps.org and select ‘Manage my Units".

If you have any questions, please post messages on the Engage board provided by the APS.

Thank you,

The DBIO Executive Committee
