Global Physics Summit, March 15-21, 2025 Anaheim
It’s almost time for the biggest annual APS meeting, this year a joint conference of the March and April Meetings. Be sure to check out the online schedule and participate in person or virtually. Here’s a few highlights to look for at this year’s conference:
FIAP Sessions
Maria Longibardi, FIAP Vice Chair, has worked with many others to organize a full program of sessions and events for the FIAP program which includes a strong focus on Quantum topics. There will be 6 invited sessions as well as many other sessions on a variety of topics. You can search for the FIAP sponsored sessions in the online schedule. Here’s the six invited sessions. Industry Room
The Industry Room is a place for companies to showcase their innovations and for students and early-career professionals to develop their careers. This is a new program which will feature presentations by industry representatives, panel discussions about industrial careers, and talks by physicists with experience working in industry. QuantumFest
QuantumFest, an extended program in celebration of the International Year of Quantum
APS is helping to celebrate the International Year of Quantum by partnering with others to hold QuantumFest in conjunction with the GPS. Step into the quantum world. This event unites curious minds, artists, and physicists, from the youngest explorers to the most established scientists worldwide. Designed to inspire and educate, QuantumFest bridges cutting-edge innovation with creative expression, sharing the wonder of quantum science. You can find more details at this link to the program.
Festivities kick off on Saturday March 15, 11am-7pm with Quantum Jubilee. This family-friendly, complimentary event serves as an opportunity open to the public to engage in performances (including aerialists), science demonstrations and flash talks showcasing the wonders of Quantum Physics. LabEscape will also be featured on a smaller scale in the Crystal Lounge; the world’s first science-based “escape room” will be running free mini-missions throughout the entire day! Additional featured appearances include: Nobel Laureate Barry Barish, Le PeTiT CiRqUe, a roaming magician and Youth Physicists. Industry Day Reception
Industry Day reception- MAR-EV34, Convention Center, Katella Terrace
This annual Thursday event will take place from 6-8PM. It will be held on the Katella Terrace, and all are welcome! Join us for some networking and social time with light refreshments to wrap up Industry Day activities for 2025. There will be brief remarks by some of the organizers and sponsors as well as tables with various topics to support industry-related conversation. More details at this link. Hope to see you there!
Careers Focus - Meet Your Future, MAR-EV09, Room 201AB
The APS Forum on Industrial and Applied Physics (FIAP) will host a special lunchtime session in which representatives from industry will provide information about physics careers in the private sector. Topics will include research opportunities for physicists in industry, strategies for successfully pursuing industrial jobs, and advice on how to thrive in this exciting and challenging work environment.
