Symposium on Undergraduate Research

The Symposium on Undergraduate Research has been a feature of the annual meeting of the Division of Laser Science of the American Physical Society (APS-DLS) for more than twenty years, and has showcased the research work of approximately 800 students during that time. These DLS annual meetings have been colocated with the annual meetings of Optica (formerly OSA) in the fall, and the students' presentations often describe their work during the previous summer. The Symposium has been supported by the DLS, the OSA, and the NSF, along with several corporate sponsors. The NSF has played a vital role by providing the research opportunities for many of the students through its REU programs, as well as by direct support of the event.
