Caregiver and Access Grant Program

Caregiver and Access Grant Program

Through this program, DLS provides funding (up to $1,000/grant) to assist DLS members who are participating (in-person or virtually) in the APS Global Physics Summit meeting, CLEO, or Frontiers In Optics/Laser Science (FIO/LS) who incur extra caregiver expenses to be able to participate in these conferences (e.g., extra child or adult daycare or babysitting services).

Access grants of up to $1,000 are available to provide assistance to enable those with disabilities to travel to the conferences. Funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event that the number of requests for grants exceeds the funding available, preference will be given to applicants in the early stages of their careers and to first-time applicants.

Eligible costs include babysitters/caregivers (onsite at the conference location or at home) and airfare/hotel for an accompanying caregiver to travel to the conference location. Meals, toys, and tickets or travel to museums or other attractions are not eligible for reimbursement. Grant recipients are solely responsible for their choice of caregiving provider; APS-DLS does not endorse any caregiver providers.

To apply, please submit an application by the deadline of February 12. Applicants must be DLS members to qualify.
