Education, Outreach & Diversity Committee
Status
The Education, Outreach and Diversity Committee is an ad hoc committee created by the DPB Executive Committee.
Membership
The Education, Outreach and Diversity Committee consists of six appointed members serving staggered three-year terms, plus ex-officio members. Two new members are appointed each year by the DPB Chair upon recommendation of the DPB Nominating Committee. One appointment is as Vice-Chair, the other as a regular member. The person appointed as Vice-Chair serves the first year as Vice-Chair, the second as Chair, and the third as Past Chair. The term of service for an appointed member starts at the beginning of the calendar year following appointment. The US Particle Accelerator School (USPAS) Director is an ex-officio member (with vote) of the Education, Outreach and Diversity Committee.
General Charge
The mission of the Education, Outreach and Diversity Committee is threefold: 1) to promote the education of new students, as well as more senior recruits from other areas, in the broad field of Beam Physics; 2) to promote the education of the whole Science Community, the Congress, and the General Public, in the importance, benefits, accomplishments, and promise of Beam Physics; and 3) to promote diversity in the field of Beam Physics, and to monitor and report on diversity issues related to events associated with the DPB.

The USPAS is an enormous resource to the U.S. Accelerator and general Beam Physics community. The Education, Outreach and Diversity Committee shall play an active role in helping the USPAS be successful in achieving its important objectives, as a facilitator and a resource for the USPAS Director. Committee contributions may include suggesting course topics, recruiting lecturers, recruiting graduate student and researcher attendees at USPAS schools, e.g., through direct contact and/or mailings to the DPB membership.

The DPB is committed to educating the greater community about Beam Physics. Outreach activities promoted by the Education, Outreach and Diversity Committee include publication and distribution of an accelerator brochure and a DPB newsletter, support for physics teacher events and student participation at conferences, and participation in Congressional visits.

The DPB is dedicated to the active promotion of diversity and a spirit of inclusion in the field of Beam Physics. One member of the Education, Outreach and Diversity Committee shall be appointed to serve as a conduit with APS Education & Diversity office. This committee member is charged with developing DPB diversity initiatives, as well as monitoring diversity issues related to DPB events and reporting them to the Executive Committee (representation for Division membership, awards, invited talks, etc.).
