GDS IMPACT Award for Excellence in Graduate Research

The APS Topical Group on Data Science (GDS) IMPACT Award will recognize the work of up to five (5) graduate students who have made noteworthy progress in their academic careers at the intersection of Physics and Data Science. This award covers conference registration fees for the 2026 APS Global Summit.

Deadline: August 11, 2025

Applicants will be notified by the end of September 2025.

Award Allocation: Registration fees.

Eligibility: Graduate students who are members of APS and GDS, and presenting during the 2026 APS Joint March-April Meeting (the APS Global Physics Summit).

Application materials:

  • A 1 to 3-page CV including a publication list.

  • A recommendation letter

  • A 1-page motivation letter and list of objectives.

    • The motivation letter should describe the applicant’s interest, the impact of their research on Data Science, and their purpose for attending the conference, highlighting how their participation will benefit them professionally.

    • The list of objectives should outline what the applicant hopes to accomplish from attending the conference.

Award Policies/Criteria:

  • Applications are reviewed by considering the impact on Data Science, the purpose/benefits for the applicant in attending the conference, the applicant’s objectives, and the potential for continued success in the field.
