Reminder: GSNP Student and Postdoc Speaker Awards

Each year, GSNP offers a Student Speaker Award and a Postdoc Speaker Award for the best-contributed talks at the 2025 Joint March Meeting and April Meeting in the area of Statistical and Nonlinear Physics. Nominations are being accepted now until October 25, 2024!!!
 

PhD Student Speaker Award


Submit your nomination for the PhD Student Speaker Award

Up to five finalists will be selected. Up to $500 travel funding will be provided to chosen finalists presenting their talk in person. The first-place winner will receive an additional $500 award. Prizes will be announced at the GSNP Business meeting.

Students must be nominated by their dissertation advisor.

Each nomination must include:

  • A letter from the nominator (normally the student's dissertation advisor)
  • Abstract of the student's talk (copy of the abstract already submitted to APS)
  • Student's CV or resume

To be considered for the Award the student must:

  • be a GSNP member
  • be currently pursuing a PhD
  • not have completed the PhD requirements before the October 20th 2023 application deadline
  • submit their abstract for the Joint March Meeting and April Meeting in one of the GSNP sessions (see dropdown in form) and give an oral presentation in person at the meeting

Postdoc Speaker Award


Submit your nomination for the Postdoctoral Speaker Award

Up to five finalists will be selected. Up to $500 travel funding will be provided to chosen finalists presenting their talk in person. The first-place winner will receive an additional $500 award. Prizes will be announced at the GSNP Business meeting.

Candidates must be nominated by a senior researcher, such as a mentor, former advisor, or collaborator.

Each nomination must include:

  • A letter from the nominator commenting on the presentation skills of the candidate and the significance of the work in the area of statistical and nonlinear physics
  • Abstract of the candidate's talk, which should be a verbatim copy of the abstract submitted as a contributed talk to the 2025 Joint March Meeting and April Meeting.
  • Candidate's curriculum vitae.

Eligible candidates must:

  • be a GSNP member
  • be holding a non-tenure track position at the time of the meeting
  • have received their Ph.D. degrees no more than 5 years prior to the March Meeting
  • submit their abstract for the Joint March Meeting and April Meeting in one of the GSNP sessions (see dropdown in form) and give an oral presentation in person at the meeting

The deadline will be extended another week or so -- please do submit!  And please be sure to join or renew your membership to GSNP so we can become a division and provide even more opportunities like this to our early career members.
