Stability of vaccines

I would be interessted to better understand the storage requirements of the vaccines. The Pfizer/Biotech vaccine needs to be stored at -80 C, while the Moderna vaccine can be stored at -20 C for essentially the same technology. The vaccines can obviously survive 5 days at fridge or even room temperature. And during vaccination, the vaccine needs to survive body temperature. RNA also work at body temperatures. So they seem not to be so fragile. I also read somewhere that the Moderna vaccines used to be stored at lower temperatures, but with some experience they relaxed the storage temperature requirements. Is Pfizer then still extra prudent, because they are newer in the field of RNA vaccines?

    Dear Colleagues,

On 1/26/2021 the New York Times published an article that discusses some properties of the virion capsid. The title is "If you squeeze the Coronavirus, does it shatter?" The link is:

    Here is an interesting article

Exploring the Supply Chain of the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines

    https://blog.jonasneubert.com/2021/01/10/exploring-the-supply-chain-of-the-pfizer-biontech-and-moderna-covid-19-vaccines/

Seems like the storage temperature of the vaccine is somewhat arbitrarily.

    Hi There,

Pfizer and BioNTech Submit COVID-19 Vaccine Stability Data at Standard Freezer Temperature to the
    U.S. FDA

    https://investors.biontech.de/node/9381/pdf

If approved the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine could be stored at -25 to -15 deg C, instead of -80 to -60 deg C, inline with the Moderna vaccine.

    Best regards
    Martin
